The 2024 season has kicked off for me with DMS Time Trials and RA Motorsports yet again, but this time instead of the usual StratoCross, we found ourselves at Stratotech Park for something a little different: the DMS Newb School & Practice Day. As the name suggests, this was an evening for newcomers to get their feet wet in the world of motorsports, with a simple layout mixing both autocross and circuit driving. Experienced drivers were on hand to offer in-car instruction and help the newcomers get more comfortable behind the wheel, especially since this was the very first time on track for many of them.

Unfortunately, we had less than ideal weather with constant rain throughout the night, but things still progressed smoothly. After multiple sighting laps, the track was opened up for newbies with instructors riding shotgun to help guide them through the track, giving them tips and advice on how to improve their driving skills. I didn’t get the chance to talk to everyone, but from what I saw many of the first timers left with a big smile on their face and feeling much more confident about their driving than when they first arrived. That’s mission accomplished I’d say!
