Last year the Rev Up Autoshow was held at the Edmonton Expo Center, an iconic venue for old timers that have been in the local car show scene for a long time as this was the spot for all the big name events once upon a time. In addition to its heritage, I went on to say how this venue is also great because it offers lots of clean and open space, has a food court for everyone attending, and also offers good lighting.
This year Rev Up Edmonton returned to this wonderful location where we once again had the clean and open space, the lively food court, and the great lighting that sadly departed us a couple hours into the event when a generator decided to Chernobyl itself. The majority of the show was actually held with nothing more than emergency lights and all kinds of LED lighting from various cars attending, and while it may not have been ideal for photographers, it really didn’t ruin the mood one bit. It certainly created a rather unique atmosphere, and in the end it was still a fantastic show even if no one could see anything; a true testament to the quality of production and care that the Rev Up crew put into their shows. No lights? No problem.
As always, I was a part of the RA Motorsports crew where this year we decided to keep things simple with just a pair of vehicles and pair of sim rigs, instead of the usual fleet of cars that we pushed in because they don’t run.
Although not visible, Rick’s car now sports a G-Force GSR dogbox transmission with a custom tunnel created by Matt of RA…
…and of course the impossible to ignore chrome RPF1’s, freshly powdercoated by RA as well (because looking cool is most important).
This is the new project Colorado by RA which is currently outfitted with an IDS lift kit, Enkei Cyclone wheels, giant Cooper Tires, and RA’s very own bed rack and underbody skid plates which are designed to work with the OEM ZR2 skid plate as seen here.
At last years show we debuted a prototype version of the RA86, but this year it is all ready to go and we had two full on production versions on hand for everyone to try.
The simulators were a hit once again with people constantly lined up to give them a go throughout the day. Thank you everyone for all your patience!
A “fastest lap” contest was held once again with the prize being a free autocross event with our good friends over at DMS Timing. Congratulations to the winner and we’ll see you out on the track soon!
Something really unique this year was a full Tamiya Mini 4WD tournament hosted by OG Tattoo and Barber Studios and Origin Hairstylers.
For those who aren’t familiar, Tamiya Mini 4WD cars are small electric cars that race on bordered tracks and they are FAST.
They also aren’t remote controlled so once they’re on the track they just take off like a dog off the leash, but they still have to be able to tackle various types of corners, jumps, and wild vertical challenges like the one pictured above, so perfecting the setup to different track layouts is key. Definitely check it out if you haven’t before because it is quite the spectacle.
Something a little unexpected, but a couple ex-Fast And Furious stunt cars were on display as well.
While the franchise is a far cry from its humble beginnings, I think I can confidently say that it is also the main reason why a lot of us are now involved in this car culture one way or another.
Holy this brings me back to my childhood. I love me a good looking Electron Blue Pearl EM1.
Lucas’ Bayside Blue R34 GT-R is always a welcome sight.
David of Import Bible’s immaculate S30 240Z in the Invision Auto booth.
Mecari Auto’s HKS widebodied GR86 with quite the flashy livery. I dig it.
Leo’s Voltex widebody GR86 which is also sporting an HKS supercharger under the hood and rolling on everybody’s favourite special spec TE37’s.
First Gear Project’s ex-R1 Titan TAS demo car looking SO good.
Carlo’s M3 on TE37’s sitting quietly in the lane.
Yifan’s period correct FC on RS Watanabe’s proving that sometimes simple is best.
Yifan’s other RX-7 is this insanely clean FD3S which would end up taking home both the Best Mazda and Best Engine Bay.
Jessie’s Honda K-powered RWB 911. I’m looking forward to seeing this on the track one day!
John’s Supra taking a break from track duties.
As always, Invision Auto was on hand with the full lineup of Bride seats for everyone to test out.
Berry’s FR-S sporting a brand new wrap for the show.
Congratulations to the RA Motorsports team for taking home the Best Function (Track/Drift) and Best Booth awards, thank you to the Rev Up crew for putting on an amazing show once again and for taking care of all the vendors, and of course a big thank you to everyone who stopped by the booth to see what we’re all about. We had a lot of fun chatting with everyone throughout the day and we hope you all enjoyed trying out the sim rigs as well.
See you all next month in Calgary!
