Although a little late into the season, last week Spec-D held the first round of their Grassroots Series, a smaller entry-level competition geared more towards amateurs and pro-am drivers looking to hone their competitive skills. With life’s busy schedule, Rick Selinske and the RA Motorsports team were absent from competitions this year so it was nice to get back out to help support another driver and friend of mine, Jared Kruger.
Jared is no stranger to the site either as his old S14 has been posted on here many times in the past, but earlier this summer he finally finished his AE86 coupe project that he had been working on for years. Despite his old S14 being naturally aspirated, Jared ‘s skill level always made up the gap when compared to a field full of horsepower and hydraulic handbrakes, thus I was excited to see what he could really do behind the wheel of his newly finished build. With a turbocharged KA24 under the hood, he was able to make his way into the top eight but some mistakes in the next round ultimately led to him being eliminated by a G37 sedan with three people in the car…oh well.
Either way it was great to see Jared finally get behind the wheel of this car that he had been working on for so many years. He’s a skilled mechanic but also a very skilled driver, so I look forward to seeing more of his driving as he works out the kinks in this new build but also get used to it at the same time. Oh also the pictures of Rick’s car here were with his buddy Scott behind the wheel.
Enjoy.
